Plants with a second purpose
Sometimes those plants are part of new installations. Sometimes they’re used for events, exhibitions or showroom displays. And occasionally, they need a new home. At Exubia, we’ve always believed that healthy plants should continue to be enjoyed wherever possible. Rather than seeing ex-display plants as something that has reached the end of its journey, we see an opportunity for them to begin a new one.
Supporting charities and community organisations
Over the years, we’ve donated plants to a range of charities, community groups and local organisations.
These donations help bring greenery into spaces that might not otherwise have the budget for planting, while ensuring healthy plants continue to provide benefits for people and places. Recently, we donated a collection of ex-display plants to Style Acre’s T2 Community Hub in Wallingford, a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities. The feedback we received was a reminder that even a relatively small donation can make a meaningful difference. The plants have added colour to the hub, while also creating opportunities for people to learn about plant care and enjoy the experience of helping something grow.
More than sustainability
Finding new homes for plants is part of our wider commitment to responsible business. It’s about reducing waste, extending the lifespan of healthy planting and ensuring resources continue to deliver value beyond their original purpose.
But it’s also about people.
Plants can transform how a space feels. They can make environments more welcoming, calming and enjoyable. When those benefits can be shared with organisations doing important work in their communities, it feels like the right thing to do.
Looking ahead
We expect this to remain a small but important part of what we do. Whenever suitable opportunities arise, we’ll continue to look for ways to give healthy plants a second life through charities, community projects and organisations that can benefit from them. If you’re involved with a charitable or community organisation and think your space could benefit from donated ex-display plants, we’d love to hear from you. While availability varies throughout the year, we’re always happy to explore what’s possible.
