PLANTONE: Don’t just paint your office green!

With Pantone releasing the 2017 colour of the year as ‘Greenery – a refreshing and revitalising shade, symbolic of new beginnings’, we’re looking forward to a very green year!

What does ‘greenery’ mean?

Psychologically, greenery means hope, growth, refreshment, balance and reassurance.  It is known to be an energising shade that invigorates and speaks of new beginnings and opportunities!  It is the colour of nature and is the most restful shade for the human eye.  Green, in direct opposition to red, means safety.

Pantone’s reasoning behind their choice of the colour of the year 2017 can be seen in the quote:

“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment.  Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Insitute.

More than just a paint swatch!

So, with all its positive associations, the shade is obviously something we want to start using more, especially around the workplace!

Whereas many would recommend painting a wall or buying new office furniture in ‘Greenery’, we believe you can go one step further than a paint swatch when it comes to bringing greenery into your office…

Interior landscaping, as no doubt you’ve heard before, doesn’t only look amazing and have the ability to breathe life back into a space…it also has huge benefits when introduced into your office!

Living greenery in your office boosts:

  • Staff motivation and productivity by 15%
  • Well-being by 47%
  • Creativity  by 45%
  • Productivity up to 38%

And reduces:

  • Tension and anxiety by 37%
  • Depression and dejection by 58%
  • Anger and hostility by 44%
  • Fatigue by 38%
  • Confusion by 30%
  • Changes in overall negativity – 64% reduction compared to a 42% increase for a no-plant zone!
  • Absenteeism by up to 50%
  • CO2 levels by 50%
  • Distracting, background noise by up to 5 decidbels
  • Dust, bacteria and mould in the air by up to 20%
  • Minor illness by 30%

So in conclusion, although greenery is a great colour all round (and we can’t praise Pantone’s choice highly enough!), don’t go stick to the conventional route of painting your walls…go all out with living greenery!

Whether it be a living wall or logo, office plants or even fresh flowers displays – why not talk to our friendly plant-obsessed team at Exubia and get them to come up with some ideas for your office?

You’ll also never regret the choice as, although ‘greenery’ is the colour of the year, the obsession of biophilia and trend for bringing the outdoors into offices is going nowhere anytime soon…and is only predicted to keep increasing!
